The Scramble Net sign marks the stowage location of a vessel’s scramble net, a heavy rope netting rigged over the ship’s side that lets crew and passengers climb down safely to a lifeboat, liferaft, or pilot boat during an evacuation, abandon-ship drill, or embarkation operation.
A scramble net is typically lashed in a bag or roll near the lifeboat davits or embarkation deck, ready to be unrolled and secured over the rail within minutes. Unlike a rigid embarkation ladder, the net’s flexible mesh gives several people a simultaneous, low-skill way down the ship’s side, which is why it remains a standard fitting on many SOLAS-classed vessels alongside pilot transfer arrangements and man-overboard recovery stations.
Mounted at deck access points and muster stations, this signage forms part of a vessel’s low-location lighting and wayfinding system. Its marine-grade construction withstands the humidity, salt spray, and temperature swings typical of shipboard environments, and the peel-and-stick backing allows fast installation without drilling into bulkheads or decks. Photoluminescent film means the sign charges under normal lighting and glows brightly the moment power fails or smoke fills a passageway, keeping the location visible when it matters most.
