Materials & Specifications

Every sign on Safety Sign Hub is printed in-house in Western Australia on one of four films. Marine grades carry the DNV MED Wheelmark and are tested to ISO 15370:2021 — the standard ship surveyors check. Any film can be supplied self-adhesive or mounted on a rigid substrate.

Quick guide

Material Choose it for
Self-Adhesive Vinyl (Non-Glow) Signs that don’t need to glow — equipment labels, hazard and prohibition signs, general identification. Cheapest option.
General Purpose Glow Vinyl Glow-in-the-dark signage where no standard applies — workshops, buildings, vehicles, sheds. Not certified. Not for marine or regulated exit signage.
Marine Glow Vinyl (Class C) Standard IMO / SOLAS shipboard safety signage. Our top seller — DNV Wheelmark certified.
Marine High Intensity Glow Vinyl (Class D) Escape routes, low-location lighting (LLL), muster stations, exits and anywhere ambient light is low or the sign must be read from a distance. Nearly twice the brightness of Class C.

Self-Adhesive Vinyl (Non-Glow)

Film Polymeric calendered PVC, approx. 75–80 µm, with clear UV-protective laminate
Print HP Latex, full colour; laminated for UV and scratch resistance
Adhesive Permanent solvent acrylic; apply +10 to +40 °C
Service temperature −30 to +80 °C
Durability Up to 5 years printed & laminated (vertical, Australian exposure)
Resistance Saltwater, detergent and washdown resistant
Photoluminescence None

General Purpose Glow Vinyl

Film Photoluminescent PVC, 200 µm, clear permanent adhesive
Glow Charges in approx. 2 minutes under normal lighting; visible afterglow up to approx. 8 hours in darkness
Luminance rating Not tested to DIN 67510 / ISO 17398 — no certified mcd/m² figures

Substrates

Any film can be supplied self-adhesive (peel-and-stick) or factory-mounted on a rigid panel for screw, rivet or stand-off fixing. Select the substrate on the product page — the uplift is shown before you add to cart.

Substrate Use
Self-adhesive only Flat, clean, non-porous surfaces — bulkheads, doors, cabinets, painted steel
Rigid PVC Light, economical panel for interior mounting
Polycarbonate Impact-resistant, UV-stable — exterior and high-traffic locations
Aluminium Corrosion-resistant, long-life exterior and deck use
Steel Magnetic-compatible, heavy-duty industrial mounting

Care

Apply to a clean, dry, oil-free surface between 10 and 40 °C and press firmly. Clean with water or mild detergent only — no solvents. Dust build-up reduces glow output, so wipe photoluminescent signs periodically. Slight colour variation between production batches is normal.

Certificates
