IMO Rescue Boat Sign – ES0008
This rescue boat sign marks the stowage and launch position of a dedicated rescue boat, a small powered craft carried in addition to the vessel’s main lifeboats and used specifically to recover people who have fallen overboard or to assist a liferaft during an evacuation. The pictogram shows a crew member in the boat pulling a person from the water, capturing the rescue boat’s primary role.
Unlike survival craft intended to carry passengers away from a sinking vessel, a rescue boat is launched quickly, often while the ship is still underway, to respond to a man-overboard situation or to marshal liferafts together during a mass evacuation. This rescue boat sign identifies exactly where that craft is stowed so the response team can reach it without delay.
Because a rescue boat launch is frequently a time-critical event, this rescue boat sign is manufactured from photoluminescent film that stays visible in poor lighting, heavy weather, or after a power failure, ensuring the launch station can be found immediately when every second counts.
