IMO Davit-Launched Liferaft Sign – ES0010
This davit-launched liferaft sign marks the stowage position of a liferaft that is lowered into the water using a dedicated davit crane rather than being thrown or floated free. The pictogram shows the closed liferaft canister alongside the davit arm that lifts and swings it outboard, letting crew identify the correct launch station without hesitation.
Davit-launched liferafts allow the raft to be boarded at deck level before being lowered under control to the water, which is considerably safer than climbing down into a raft already floating alongside, especially in rough seas or during a night evacuation. This davit-launched liferaft sign is positioned at the exact stowage and boarding point so the launch sequence can begin immediately once the muster is complete.
As with all escape route signage on board, this davit-launched liferaft sign is manufactured from photoluminescent film that charges under normal lighting and keeps glowing through a blackout or heavy smoke, so the launch station remains identifiable when conventional lighting fails.
