This Electrical Hazard sign warns crew and contractors that live electrical equipment, switchboards or cabling present a risk of shock or arc flash in the marked area. It follows the internationally recognised ISO 7010 warning pictogram format, showing a black lightning bolt on the standard photoluminescent yellow triangle so the hazard is understood instantly regardless of the reader’s first language.
As SKU HS0010 in the Hazard Signs range, it is built for continuous marine exposure and suits switchboard rooms, generator flats, electrical workshops, junction boxes and any compartment where an electrical hazard is present.
The pictogram shows a single jagged lightning bolt inside the black-bordered warning triangle, the same graphic used on electrical hazard warnings across shipping, industrial and shore-based power infrastructure worldwide.
Because electrical hazard risks are invisible until contact is made, the sign has to register before someone reaches for a panel, cable or terminal rather than after an incident, and the text-free symbol achieves that instantly for any crew member, apprentice or visiting contractor. The photoluminescent base keeps the electrical hazard warning visible for a period after lighting fails, which is exactly when someone might otherwise fumble toward a switchboard without realising the risk.
An electrical hazard can cause fatal shock or arc flash injury in a fraction of a second, so there is no margin for a missing or faded warning at a switchboard, junction box or generator flat.
Standardised electrical hazard signage supports lock-out/tag-out procedures by clearly marking equipment that must not be approached or opened without isolation, a distinction that matters most in engine rooms and generator flats where multiple panels of similar appearance sit side by side, and it gives contractors and new crew an immediate, unambiguous cue before they start work in an unfamiliar compartment. It also reinforces the vessel’s permit-to-work system by making high-risk electrical areas visually obvious during routine rounds and emergency response.
This sign is produced to align with IMO shipboard safety signage guidance and the ISO 7010 graphical symbol set referenced in electrical safety practice aboard vessels and at shore facilities, supporting the hazard identification requirements of the ISM Code and general electrical safety procedures. A clearly displayed electrical hazard warning at switchboards, panels and generator spaces is a documented control that classification surveyors, electrical safety auditors and Port State Control officers specifically check for during inspection of a vessel’s electrical systems.
Mount the sign directly on or immediately beside switchboard doors, distribution panels, junction boxes and generator access points, at a height that is clearly visible before the enclosure is opened. Use the pre-drilled fixing holes with marine-grade fasteners for exterior and high-vibration electrical spaces, and the self-adhesive backing for interior panels and cabinets where drilling is not practical.
Check the sign during electrical safety rounds and permit-to-work reviews to confirm it remains legible and correctly positioned, since an electrical hazard sign that has been painted over or obscured provides no protection, and any panel that has been recently repainted or relabelled should have its warning signage checked as part of the same job.
