The Davit-Launched Liferaft sign marks the stowage location of an inflatable liferaft that deploys and boards on deck rather than being thrown overboard. Crew lower the davit, release the raft’s painter line so it inflates and locks onto the lifting hook, then climb directly into the raft while it is still suspended at deck level, keeping everyone dry and reducing the risk of a fall into open water.
Once boarded and secured, the crane lowers the loaded raft down the ship’s side to the water, where the hook releases automatically as the load comes off. This davit-launched liferaft arrangement is preferred on vessels with high freeboard or larger passenger and crew numbers, where a conventional throw-overboard raft would be harder to reach or board safely during an evacuation.
Mounted at deck access points and muster stations, this signage forms part of a vessel’s low-location lighting and wayfinding system. Its marine-grade construction withstands the humidity, salt spray, and temperature swings typical of shipboard environments, and the peel-and-stick backing allows fast installation without drilling into bulkheads or decks. Photoluminescent film means the sign charges under normal lighting and glows brightly the moment power fails or smoke fills a passageway, keeping the location visible when it matters most.
Technical specifications: SKU ES0027. Compliant: IMO Resolution A.1116(30).
Approved under IMO photoluminescent low-location lighting standards, this davit-launched liferaft sign is part of our full range of Escape Route Signs.
