The ISPS0011 Reception sign is a single-word identification sign that marks the exact location of a vessel’s or port facility’s designated reception point. Unlike an instructional sign telling someone where to go, this reception point sign labels the point itself, so crew, contractors, agents, surveyors and port officials arriving on board or on site can positively identify where check-in, documentation and escort arrangements take place. It is typically fixed to a door, bulkhead or counter at the head of the gangway, in the ship’s office, or at the entrance to a port facility’s administration block.
Within Safety Sign Hub’s ISPA Signs range, this reception point sign works alongside directional and instructional security signage to complete the access-control chain: a visitor is first directed toward the reception point by an instructional sign, then confirms they have reached the correct location via this identification sign. Common fitting positions include the gangway watch station, the ship’s office door, the security office corridor, cargo control room approaches, and the front counter of a port facility’s admin building. Under the vessel’s Ship Security Plan or a port facility’s Port Facility Security Plan, this sign supports the designated checkpoint structure that funnels all arrivals through one controlled, identifiable location before they are permitted further access.
The sign is produced on rigid marine-grade board or self-adhesive vinyl, both finished to withstand UV exposure, saltwater spray and the general wear of shipboard and dockside conditions. A photoluminescent version is available for reception points located in poorly lit passageways or used during low-visibility watchkeeping periods, keeping the location identifiable at all times.
A reception point that is not clearly marked undermines the whole access-control process built into a vessel’s or facility’s security arrangements. If arrivals cannot immediately identify where to check in, they may linger near restricted areas, wander unescorted, or bypass the checkpoint altogether while looking for the right door. Each of these outcomes creates exactly the kind of ambiguity the ISPS Code is designed to remove. A clearly labelled reception point sign reinforces the security culture required aboard ship and at port facilities: everyone entering knows, without asking, precisely where control of their movement begins.
This is a maritime security sign produced in line with the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code under SOLAS Chapter XI-2, and it is not a registered ISO 7010 hazard pictogram. Its wording and placement should match what is documented in the vessel’s Ship Security Plan (SSP) or the port facility’s Port Facility Security Plan (PFSP), as implemented by the Ship Security Officer (SSO), Company Security Officer (CSO) or Port Facility Security Officer (PFSO). IMO guidance on maritime security signage supports consistent, unambiguous marking of checkpoints such as reception points. During ISPS audits, Port State Control officers and classification society surveyors routinely check that on-board and on-site security signage, including reception point identification, matches what is described in the approved Security Plan.
Mount the ISPS0011 reception point sign at eye level directly on or beside the door, counter or bulkhead where check-in occurs, ideally visible from the direction arrivals approach from (gangway, dock, or facility entrance). Where the reception point sits along a low-lit passageway, use the photoluminescent variant so it remains identifiable during night watches or power outages.
Order the ISPS0011 reception point sign from Safety Sign Hub’s ISPA Signs range to complete your vessel’s or facility’s checkpoint marking, and pair it with instructional signage such as ISPS0011-B “All Visitors Report Reception”, ISPS0012 “All Visitors Report Sec. Off.” or ISPS0015 “Visitors Report To…” to direct arrivals to this point in the first place. Browse our Mandatory Signs for further access-control requirements under your Security Plan.
