The Low Flashpoint Hazard Sign HS0073 is the standard ISO 7010 pictogram for Low Flashpoint, used aboard ships to warn crew, contractors, and visitors that a space contains a fuel or substance able to ignite at unusually low temperatures. As with most ISO 7010 warnings, the pictogram appears in the familiar black-on-yellow warning triangle format, giving an instant, language-independent alert. This low flashpoint hazard sign is meant for permanent fixing near bunkering stations, fuel tanks, and gas preparation rooms, so anyone entering understands the danger before carrying out hot work, smoking, or introducing an ignition source.
Within Safety Sign Hub’s Hazard Signs range, SKU HS0073 sits alongside our other flammability and fuel-handling warnings, suited to vessels bunkering or storing low flashpoint fuels such as LNG, methanol, or other alternative marine fuels covered under the IGF Code. Typical locations include bunker stations, fuel preparation rooms, tank vent outlets, and pump rooms. Fitting a dedicated low flashpoint hazard sign at each of these points flags the hazard consistently across the vessel, rather than relying on generic flammable material warnings that miss the specific ignition risk of a low flashpoint substance.
Like the rest of our shipboard signage, HS0073 is produced on rigid, marine-grade material with a self-adhesive backing option, and is available in a photoluminescent finish so the pictogram remains visible during power loss or in poorly lit machinery spaces. The sign is manufactured to resist saltwater spray, UV exposure, and the temperature swings typical of engine rooms and open deck fuel stations, so the low flashpoint hazard sign continues to read clearly after years of service in a marine environment.
A low flashpoint substance can produce ignitable vapour at temperatures well below what crew might expect from conventional fuels, so an ignition source that would be harmless near diesel can trigger a flash fire near a low flashpoint fuel line. Unmarked or poorly marked spaces increase the chance that hot work permits are issued without proper precautions, or that contractors unknowingly bring an ignition source into a restricted area. Clear signage at every access point gives officers and permit-to-work holders a fast visual cue during safety rounds and risk assessments. Consistent use of the correct low flashpoint hazard sign also supports incident investigations, since crew can reference a recognised, standardised warning rather than describing the hazard informally.
HS0073 reproduces an ISO 7010 registered safety sign, the international standard referenced by IMO shipboard safety signage guidance for consistent, recognisable pictograms across all flag states. General SOLAS safety provisions call for hazards to be clearly identified so that safe working practices can be followed, and Port State Control officers and classification society surveyors check that hazard areas, including fuel and gas spaces, carry appropriate, legible signage. Full technical detail on the pictogram families and their registered design intent is published by ISO at iso.org, and vessels can cross-reference IMO’s guidance on shipboard safety signs to confirm placement fits within their safety management system.
Mount this low flashpoint hazard sign at eye level on bulkheads or door frames immediately outside the hazardous space, and repeat it at tank access hatches, vent risers, and bunkering manifold connections where crew or shore personnel might approach without first passing through a marked entrance. Keep the surface clean and unobstructed by cabling, pipework lagging, or stored equipment so the pictogram stays fully visible during inspections and emergencies.
