This Laser Beam sign warns crew and visitors that equipment emitting a concentrated laser beam, such as an alignment tool, surveying instrument or laser-based measuring device, is in use in the marked area. It follows the internationally recognised ISO 7010 warning pictogram format, showing a radiating burst on the standard photoluminescent yellow triangle so this hazard reads instantly regardless of the reader’s first language.
As SKU HS0022 in the Hazard Signs range, it is built for continuous marine exposure and suits engineering workshops, alignment and survey stations, and any compartment where laser measuring or cutting equipment is regularly used.
The pictogram shows a radiating starburst emanating from a central point, rendered in black inside the warning triangle, a graphic that communicates the concentrated-light hazard of a laser beam without needing text or a wavelength specification.
Because a laser beam can cause serious eye injury even from a brief, indirect exposure, the sign gives an immediate cue for crew and visitors to avoid looking toward the marked equipment and to check whether protective eyewear is required before entering. The photoluminescent base keeps this warning visible for a period after lighting fails, useful in workshop spaces where alignment equipment is sometimes used during low-light conditions for better beam visibility.
Eye exposure to a laser beam can cause permanent damage in a fraction of a second, with no pain or warning sensation to alert the person affected, which makes clear signage one of the only practical controls available against accidental exposure.
Standardised laser beam signage supports the use of protective eyewear and controlled access during alignment, survey or cutting work, and it gives crew and visitors an immediate cue to avoid the direct or reflected beam path. It also protects contractors and visiting technicians who may be unfamiliar with which equipment aboard a particular vessel uses laser-based systems.
This sign is produced to align with IMO shipboard safety signage guidance and the ISO 7010 graphical symbol set used to flag laser hazards across shipping and industrial environments, supporting the ISM Code’s requirement for documented control of equipment-specific hazards. A visible laser beam warning at engineering workshops and alignment stations is a documented control that internal safety auditors and Port State Control officers look for when reviewing a vessel’s equipment safety arrangements.
Mount the sign at eye level at the entrance to any area where laser beam equipment is regularly used, and consider a secondary sign directly on the equipment itself if it is portable or moved between locations. Use the pre-drilled fixing holes with marine-grade fasteners for workshop bulkheads, and the self-adhesive backing for equipment cases and temporary survey station setups. Remove or cover the sign only once the equipment is confirmed powered down and stowed, since the laser beam hazard exists only while the unit is active.
Order the HS0022 Laser Beam sign today to mark every alignment and survey station before your next equipment safety audit. Safety Sign Hub stocks the complete IMPA/ISSA-coded hazard sign range and ships marine-grade signage across Australia and to vessels in port, with bulk pricing for fleet orders.
