This Gas Bottles sign warns crew and visitors that pressurised gas cylinders, which can rupture or feed a fire if mishandled, are stored or in use in the marked area. It follows the internationally recognised ISO 7010 warning pictogram format, showing a bursting, flaming cylinder on the standard photoluminescent yellow triangle so the hazard reads instantly regardless of the reader’s first language.
As SKU HS0017 in the Hazard Signs range, it is built for continuous marine exposure and suits welding gas stores, oxy-acetylene lockers, deck cylinder racks and engine room gas bottle stowage areas.
The pictogram shows a cylinder venting a burst of fragments at one end and a small flame at the other, rendered in black inside the warning triangle, a graphic that communicates both the explosion and fire risk of gas bottles in a single, text-free image.
Because gas bottles can fail catastrophically if exposed to heat, impact or corrosion, the sign gives an immediate visual cue to secure cylinders upright, keep them away from ignition sources, and handle valves with care. The photoluminescent base keeps the gas bottles warning visible for a period after lighting fails, which matters in below-deck stores where cylinder racks are common.
A failed or ignited gas bottle can cause an explosion or rapid fire spread, so clear signage at every storage and use point is one of the simplest controls available against a high-consequence, low-frequency event.
Standardised gas bottles signage supports the vessel’s hot work permit system by marking areas where cylinders are present, reminds crew to check that bottles are secured and valves protected, and gives visiting contractors an immediate warning before they bring welding or cutting equipment into a marked space. It also reinforces segregation from incompatible cargo or stores kept nearby.
This sign is produced to align with IMO shipboard safety signage guidance and the ISO 7010 graphical symbol set, and it supports the stowage and segregation requirements set out in the IMDG Code for compressed gases carried or used aboard vessels. A visible gas bottles warning at cylinder stores and welding areas is a documented control that classification surveyors, Port State Control officers and internal safety auditors expect to see as part of a vessel’s hot work and gas handling procedures.
Mount the sign at eye level directly on or beside the door or cage housing the gas bottles, using the pre-drilled fixing holes with marine-grade fasteners for exterior deck cylinder racks exposed to weather and vibration, and the self-adhesive backing for interior lockers and workshop cabinets. Keep the sign clear of stacked equipment or cylinder trolleys that could obstruct the line of sight, and check it during hot work permit rounds to confirm the gas bottles warning remains clearly visible, replacing it immediately if the pictogram has faded to the point of being hard to read at a glance.
