The HS0083 compressed gas hazard sign reproduces the standard ISO 7010 pictogram for Danger: Compressed Gases, shown as a black graphic on the yellow warning triangle used across ISO 7010 hazard signs. It gives an instant, language-independent alert that pressurised gas cylinders, manifolds or gas-fed systems are nearby, and that rough handling, heat, sparks or physical damage in the area could trigger a rupture, release or explosion. The sign is intended for crew, engineers, contractors and visiting surveyors moving through gas storage and handling spaces, giving them a clear cue to slow down and treat the area with care.
Within Safety Sign Hub’s Hazard Signs range, HS0083 sits alongside our other cylinder and pressure-related warnings as the dedicated compressed gas hazard sign for general compressed-gas risk, distinct from acetylene-specific or bottle-storage notices elsewhere in the catalogue. Aboard ship it is typically fitted at gas cylinder lockers, welding and hot-work stores, refrigeration plant rooms, CO2 fixed fire-fighting cylinder banks, galley LPG stores, engine room gas-bottle racks and any compartment where compressed-gas cylinders are stowed, connected or exchanged during routine operations.
Every HS0083 sign is produced on rigid, marine-grade substrate or as a durable self-adhesive label, depending on the mounting surface, and is available in photoluminescent material so the pictogram stays visible if main lighting fails. Panels are UV-stabilised and corrosion-resistant, holding their colour and adhesion through prolonged saltwater spray, humidity and the temperature swings typical of engine rooms, deck lockers and exposed weather stations, so the sign keeps performing over years of service.
Compressed gas cylinders store substantial energy, and a valve failure, dropped bottle or heat exposure near an unmarked store can turn a routine task into a serious incident, from an uncontrolled release to a projectile cylinder or fire. A visible compressed gas hazard sign gives crew the split-second recognition needed to avoid smoking, welding, grinding or striking metal near cylinder storage, and to confirm bottles are secured and valves closed before leaving the space. It also supports safety rounds and toolbox talks, giving officers a fixed reference point when briefing new crew or contractors on compressed-gas risks and precautions before hot work permits are issued nearby.
HS0083 reproduces a registered pictogram from the ISO 7010 graphical symbols standard, the internationally recognised system for safety signs referenced by IMO guidance on shipboard signage and supported by SOLAS’s general requirement that hazards be clearly and consistently marked for everyone on board. Fitting a correctly formatted compressed gas hazard sign at cylinder stores and gas-handling spaces helps a vessel demonstrate a consistent, standards-based approach to hazard marking during Port State Control inspections and classification society surveys, where inspectors expect signage to match recognised international pictograms rather than ad hoc wording. Full technical detail on the ISO 7010 symbol library is available directly from ISO.
Mount each compressed gas hazard sign at eye level on or immediately beside the entrance to any compartment, locker or rack holding compressed gas cylinders, and repeat it on cylinder cages, manifold cabinets or bulkheads facing regular crew traffic. In larger gas stores or engine rooms, position an additional sign near the specific cylinder bank or connection point rather than relying on a single sign at the door, and keep the surface clean and unobstructed so the pictogram stays legible during inspections and emergencies.
Fit HS0083 wherever compressed gas cylinders are stored, connected or exchanged aboard your vessel, and explore the full Hazard Signs range or complementary Fire Fighting Signs to complete your compliance signage package.
