This Biological Hazard sign warns crew and visitors that infectious waste, contaminated material or a biological agent is present or handled in the marked area. It follows the internationally recognised ISO 7010 warning pictogram format, showing the universal biohazard trefoil on the standard photoluminescent yellow triangle so the biological hazard reads instantly regardless of the reader’s first language.
As SKU HS0024 in the Hazard Signs range, it is built for continuous marine exposure and suits medical waste storage, sewage treatment plant rooms, clinical waste bins, quarantine areas and any compartment where contaminated material is handled or stored.
The pictogram shows the black biohazard trefoil, three interlocking crescents around a central circle, inside the warning triangle, a symbol recognised in hospitals, laboratories and ports worldwide without needing translation.
Because a biological hazard cannot be identified by sight or smell in most cases, the sign is often the only warning that gloves, masks or careful handling are required before touching a container or entering a marked compartment. The photoluminescent base keeps the biological hazard warning visible for a period after lighting fails, useful in waste storage and treatment plant compartments with limited natural light.
Exposure to a biological hazard can lead to infection or illness that may not become apparent until well after the point of contact, so clear marking at the source is one of the few controls that reliably prevents accidental exposure.
Standardised biological hazard signage supports the vessel’s medical waste and sewage treatment procedures by defining exactly which containers, bins and compartments require PPE before handling, and it gives visiting contractors, port health officials and new crew an immediate cue that is easy to recognise. It also reinforces correct segregation between clinical waste and general refuse during disposal operations.
This sign is produced to align with IMO shipboard safety signage guidance and the ISO 7010 graphical symbol set used to flag biological hazards across the maritime, medical and port sectors, supporting the ISM Code’s requirement for documented control of health hazards aboard vessels. A visible biological hazard warning on medical waste storage and treatment plant areas is a documented control that port health authorities, classification surveyors and internal safety auditors look for during a vessel’s health and hygiene inspection.
Mount the sign directly on or beside medical waste bins, sewage treatment plant doors and any storage point for contaminated material, at a height that is clearly visible before the container is opened. Use the pre-drilled fixing holes with marine-grade fasteners for exterior and high-traffic waste handling areas, and the self-adhesive backing for interior bins and cabinet doors.
Replace the sign promptly if it becomes soiled or damaged during waste handling, since a degraded biological hazard warning undermines the protective purpose it serves, particularly on bins that are washed down or replaced frequently as part of routine waste handling.

Safety Sign Hub stocks the complete IMPA/ISSA-coded hazard sign range and ships marine-grade signage across Australia and to vessels in port, with bulk pricing for fleet orders.
