This Sharp Element sign warns crew and visitors that exposed blades, edges or points nearby can cut or puncture skin on contact. It follows the internationally recognised ISO 7010 warning pictogram format, showing a hand being cut on a projecting blade on the standard photoluminescent yellow triangle so the sharp element hazard reads instantly regardless of the reader’s first language.
As SKU HS0027 in the Hazard Signs range, it is built for continuous marine exposure and suits workshop cutting stations, exposed rigging terminations, sheet metal stores and any area where a sharp element presents an everyday laceration risk.
The pictogram shows a hand caught against a protruding blade, rendered in black inside the warning triangle, a graphic that communicates the cutting hazard instantly without needing text to describe the specific edge or point involved.
Because a sharp element is often a fixed feature of equipment or structure rather than something that can be removed, the sign’s role is to keep the risk front of mind every time someone works near it, particularly during routine tasks where attention may be elsewhere. The photoluminescent base keeps the sharp element warning visible for a period after lighting fails, useful in workshop and stores areas accessed during night rounds.
Lacerations from an exposed sharp element are among the most common minor injuries recorded aboard vessels, and they typically happen when someone reaches past or leans against equipment without registering the hazard.
Standardised sharp element signage keeps hands and bodies clear of projecting blades, edges and points during routine work, and it supports the vessel’s cut prevention procedures by marking recurring hazards at fixed structural or equipment locations. It also protects contractors and new crew who have not yet learned which fittings in a particular workshop or stores area carry an exposed edge.
This sign is produced to align with IMO shipboard safety signage guidance and the ISO 7010 graphical symbol set used to flag mechanical injury hazards across the maritime industry, supporting the ISM Code’s requirement for documented control of workshop and equipment risks. A visible sharp element warning at cutting stations and exposed fittings is a documented control that internal safety auditors and Port State Control officers look for when reviewing a vessel’s workshop safety arrangements.
Mount the sign directly on or immediately beside the fitting, machine or structure presenting the sharp element hazard, at a height that is seen before hands reach toward it. Use the pre-drilled fixing holes with marine-grade fasteners for exterior and high-vibration workshop locations, and the self-adhesive backing for interior cabinets, benches and equipment housings.
Check the sign periodically to confirm it remains legible and has not been dislodged by the handling of stock or tools nearby, particularly in busy workshop areas where signage can be knocked loose without anyone noticing straight away.
