This Halon Release Station sign identifies the point on board where a fixed Halon fire-extinguishing system is manually activated, allowing officers and crew to locate the release point instantly during an emergency. The pictogram shows two red gas cylinders beneath a bracketed letter “H”, the internationally standardised fire control symbol for a Halon installation control point, and it is produced to the same graphical convention used on the vessel’s fire control plan so the physical sign on the bulkhead matches exactly what the bridge team sees on the plan. As SKU FS0214 in the Fire Fighting Signs range, it is built for permanent installation in engine rooms, pump rooms, cargo holds and other Halon-protected spaces where fast, unambiguous identification of the release point can materially affect how quickly a fire is brought under control.
Halon systems remain in service on many older vessels and in specialised machinery spaces where an inert, non-conductive extinguishing agent is preferred, and IMO fire control symbols exist precisely because text labels are not reliable in an emergency involving smoke, poor lighting or a multinational crew. The red cylinder graphic and “H” designator on this sign are deliberately free of language dependency, so a contractor, surveyor or new crew member can identify the Halon release station correctly without needing to read English. The photoluminescent background also charges under normal lighting and continues to glow for an extended period after a power failure, keeping the release station identifiable exactly when normal lighting has failed and the crew needs it most.
A Halon release station that cannot be found quickly defeats the purpose of the fixed system it controls, because Halon extinguishing only works if the correct valve or lever is activated within the critical early minutes of a fire. Clear, standardised signage at the release point removes any doubt about which control operates which protected space, which is especially important on vessels where several remote release stations for different agents (Halon, CO2, foam) are grouped in the same alleyway or machinery space entrance. Fire teams responding under pressure need to identify the Halon release station on sight, confirm it corresponds to the space that is actually on fire, and operate it without hesitation, and a compliant, well-maintained sign is what makes that possible.
This sign reproduces the fire control symbol set derived from IMO Resolution A.654(16) and carried forward into the current ISO 17631 graphical symbols used on fire control plans, so it aligns directly with the documentation flag-state surveyors and classification societies check during fire safety inspections. Port State Control officers and ISM auditors routinely walk the vessel comparing physical signage against the fire control plan, and a Halon release station sign that is missing, faded or mismatched from the plan is a common and easily avoidable deficiency. Fitting SKU FS0214 at every Halon release point keeps the physical ship and its fire control plan in agreement, supporting a clean survey outcome and a demonstrably proactive safety culture.
Mount this Halon release station sign directly above or immediately beside the physical release lever or valve so there is no ambiguity about which control it identifies, using the pre-drilled fixing holes for a permanent bulkhead fixing or the self-adhesive backing on smooth painted steel. In machinery spaces exposed to heat, vibration and oily residue, a screw or rivet fixing will outlast adhesive alone, and the sign should be positioned at a height that remains clearly visible even when smoke is banking down from the deckhead. Check the sign during routine fire equipment rounds to confirm it remains legible, correctly labelled and consistent with the current fire control plan, particularly after any refit or system modification.
Order the FS0214 Halon Release Station sign to keep every fixed fire-extinguishing control point on your vessel correctly identified and matched to the fire control plan before your next survey. Safety Sign Hub stocks the complete range of IMO fire control symbols and ships marine-grade signage across Australia and to vessels in port.
