This Corrosive Material sign warns crew and visitors that acids, alkalis or other tissue-damaging substances are stored or handled in the marked area. It follows the internationally recognised ISO 7010 warning pictogram format, using the standard photoluminescent yellow triangle and black border with the corrosive-material graphic so the hazard reads instantly to any crew member, contractor or surveyor regardless of first language. As SKU HS0004 in the Hazard Signs range, it is built for continuous marine exposure and suits battery rooms, chemical stores, tank cleaning stations, laboratory spaces and bunkering areas where corrosive material is present.
The pictogram shows two test tubes tipping corrosive liquid onto a flat surface and onto an outstretched hand, illustrating both material damage and personal injury in a single, text-free graphic that the IMDG Code and shore-based chemical handling guidance both rely on. Because the symbol needs no translation, it communicates the corrosive material hazard just as clearly to a visiting stevedore or new crew member as it does to an experienced chief engineer. The photoluminescent base coat also keeps the corrosive material warning visible for a period after lighting fails, reinforcing the hazard exactly when a crew member’s attention is on finding their way rather than reading fine print.
Corrosive material causes injury on contact rather than after a delay, so the warning has to register before someone reaches for an unmarked drum, valve or storage locker. Clear corrosive material signage keeps unprotected hands, eyes and skin away from acids and alkalis, supports the vessel’s PPE requirements for the marked area, and gives first responders an immediate visual cue about what they are dealing with if a spill or splash incident occurs. It also helps new crew and contractors who have not yet learned a ship’s specific stowage plan recognise a corrosive material hazard on sight, without needing to consult a manifest first.
This sign is produced to align with IMO shipboard safety signage guidance and the ISO 7010 graphical symbol set, and it supports the segregation and hazard communication obligations set out in the IMDG Code for corrosive substances carried, stowed or handled aboard vessels and in port facilities. A clearly displayed corrosive material warning at the point of hazard is a documented control that Port State Control officers, classification surveyors and ISM internal auditors look for when assessing a vessel’s chemical safety arrangements, and it is a low-cost way to strengthen that safety case, particularly on vessels that regularly rotate crew and cannot rely solely on verbal handover of local hazards.
Mount the sign directly on or beside the door, cabinet or bulkhead nearest the corrosive substance storage or handling point, at eye level so it is seen before contact rather than after. This placement matters most at the entry point crew actually use, rather than on a nearby wall that is easy to walk past without noticing. Use the pre-drilled fixing holes with marine-grade fasteners in exterior or high-vibration locations, and the self-adhesive backing for dry interior cabinets and lockers where a permanent fixture is not required. Confirm during routine rounds that the sign remains clean, unobstructed and firmly fixed, since a faded or hidden corrosive material sign no longer serves its purpose.
Order the HS0004 Corrosive Material sign today to mark this hazard clearly before your next Port State Control inspection or ISM audit. Safety Sign Hub stocks the complete IMPA/ISSA-coded hazard sign range and ships marine-grade signage across Australia and to vessels in port, with bulk pricing for fleet orders.
