The Acetylene Warning Sign (SKU HS0055) is the standard ISO 7010 pictogram for Acetylene, a black flame symbol set inside the familiar yellow warning triangle used across the ISO 7010 family of hazard pictograms. It exists to give crew, contractors, and visiting personnel an instant, language-independent alert wherever acetylene gas is stored, piped, or used on board, so anyone passing through the area recognises the hazard before getting close to it.
Within Safety Sign Hub’s Hazard Signs range, this acetylene warning sign sits alongside our other flammable-gas and pressurised-gas pictograms, and it is typically specified for welding and cutting stations, gas bottle stores, engine room workshops, hot-work bays, and anywhere acetylene cylinders are staged or connected to a manifold. Deck departments, engineering officers, and safety officers rely on it to mark exclusion zones and to reinforce permit-to-work controls during hot-work operations.

Like the rest of our shipboard signage, HS0055 is produced on rigid, marine-grade photoluminescent material with a self-adhesive backing, so it can be fixed directly to bulkheads, gas locker doors, or cylinder cages. The substrate is engineered to withstand salt spray, UV exposure, and the temperature swings typical of engine spaces and open decks, so the pictogram stays legible for the working life of the vessel.
Acetylene is a highly flammable, unstable gas that can decompose explosively under pressure or heat, and it is one of the most hazardous compressed gases routinely carried aboard ships for welding and cutting work. An unmarked or poorly placed acetylene warning sign increases the chance that hot work, smoking, or unauthorised access happens too close to a cylinder store, turning a routine job into a fire or explosion incident.
Clear signage also supports the vessel’s own safety management system. Posting it at the point of storage or use gives crew a visual prompt during daily rounds, toolbox talks, and permit-to-work checks, and it helps new joiners and visiting contractors identify the hazard immediately, without needing to consult a manual first.
HS0055 reproduces a registered ISO 7010 graphical symbol, the international standard referenced by IMO guidance on shipboard safety signs and by SOLAS’s general requirement that hazards be clearly and consistently marked for all crew and passengers regardless of nationality or language. Using ISO 7010 registered safety signs such as this acetylene warning sign helps a vessel demonstrate a consistent, internationally recognised signage scheme during Port State Control inspections and classification society surveys. For the full technical background on the standard itself, see the ISO 7010 graphical symbols standard.
Mount the acetylene warning sign at eye level on or immediately adjacent to the gas store, cylinder cage, or manifold it refers to, and repeat it at each access point if the storage area has more than one entrance. Keep the surrounding area free of obstructions so the sign stays visible even when cylinders, trolleys, or hoses are in use, and check it during routine safety rounds to confirm the surface is clean and the adhesive bond is intact.
Fit this sign wherever acetylene is stored or used on board to keep hot-work areas clearly identified and inspection-ready. Browse the full Hazard Signs range for related gas and flammable-material pictograms, or check our Fire Fighting Signs for equipment marking nearby.
