This Fall Hazard sign warns crew and visitors that an unguarded edge, open hatch or elevated platform presents a risk of falling in the marked area. It follows the internationally recognised ISO 7010 warning pictogram format, showing a figure falling from an edge on the standard photoluminescent yellow triangle so the hazard reads instantly to crew, contractors and visitors regardless of language.
As SKU HS0014 in the Hazard Signs range, it is built for continuous marine exposure and suits open hatch coamings, elevated walkways, tank tops, gangway platforms and any deck edge where a fall hazard exists.
The pictogram shows a figure toppling backward off a raised ledge, rendered in black inside the warning triangle, an instantly readable graphic used across the maritime industry to flag drop and fall risks without relying on text.
Because a fall hazard often exists only temporarily, such as when a hatch cover is open or a platform section is removed for maintenance, the sign gives an immediate visual cue that the usual safe walking route has changed and that extra caution or a harness is required. The photoluminescent base keeps the fall hazard warning visible for a period after lighting fails, which is particularly important around open hatches and elevated platforms accessed during night rounds.
A fall from height aboard a vessel can cause serious or fatal injury even from a modest drop, given the hard steel surfaces, machinery and cargo typically found below, so a clearly marked fall hazard is one of the simplest and most effective injury prevention measures available, particularly during the temporary conditions created by maintenance and dry-docking work.
Standardised signage at every temporary or permanent fall hazard supports the vessel’s working-at-height procedures and reinforces the use of barriers, harnesses or spotters where required. It also gives contractors and visiting personnel, who may not know which hatches or platforms are normally guarded, an immediate warning that the usual safe condition does not currently apply.
This sign is produced to align with IMO shipboard safety signage guidance and the ISO 7010 graphical symbol set used to mark fall and drop hazards across the maritime and offshore industries, supporting the ISM Code’s requirement for documented control of working-at-height risks. A visible fall hazard warning at open hatches, removed guardrails and elevated platforms is exactly the kind of control that Port State Control officers and internal safety auditors expect to find documented during maintenance periods and cargo operations.
Position the sign at the immediate approach to the fall hazard, on a barrier, stanchion or adjacent bulkhead, so it is seen in the last few steps before reaching an open edge or removed guardrail. Use the pre-drilled fixing holes with marine-grade fasteners for barriers and exterior deck fittings, and the self-adhesive backing for temporary placement on hatch coamings or scaffold frames during maintenance.
Remove or relocate the sign promptly once the fall hazard is made safe again, and reapply it immediately whenever a guardrail or hatch cover is next removed, keeping a small stock of spare signs on hand for exactly this kind of short-notice maintenance work.

Safety Sign Hub stocks the complete IMPA/ISSA-coded hazard sign range and ships marine-grade signage across Australia and to vessels in port, with bulk pricing for fleet orders.
